Idee Du Desir: Orchid 1001 Nights Dildo Review

~I received this product from Idee Du Desir for free in exchange for an honest review. This in no way, shape or form has any affect on my opinions on this product.~

Hello all! I’m back again with another review! I know, it’s been a little over a month since I last wrote a review but the reason behind that was at first because of the Christmas/New Year period – so it took me a while to get out of the whole holiday mindset. But then my gran became ill and had to be taken into hospital for almost a week so I was quite worried and just not myself at that time. But, she is now a lot better and at home now so I feel much more in a writing mood, hence my first review of 2017.

First Impressions:

So, what exactly am I reviewing? A WOODEN DILDO! You have honestly no idea how long I’ve waited to review a sex toy made from wood. A really long time, maybe a year or a little less. Funnily enough, after receiving the Orchid 1001 Nights from Idee Du Desir, about a week or so later, I got two other wooden sex toys from another company. I just find that ironic considering how I went from having nothing wooden in my sex toy collection, to three wooden toys in the space of a week.

Before I get to talking about the Orchid 1001 Nights in detail, lets start with how it was presented. Let me tell you now, Idee Du Desir seem to know exactly what they’re doing when it comes to packaging. The Orchid 1001 Nights came in a lovely, sturdy gift box that was tied with a burgundy coloured ribbon. Inside the box the Orchid was in a silky storage bag alongside some info on the product itself and care instructions that were rolled up and tied with the same ribbon to look like scrolls. SCROLLS! That’s honestly just awesome to me. The packaging is simple overall but I find it quite elegant, I’m a big fan.

The Orchid 1001 has about 7 inches of overall length, the head of the toy having a diameter of 3.8 cm. A few people commented that it looks similar to the Fling by NobEssence. Admittedly, it does. But there are lots of similarities in toys these days, so as long as it’s not an obvious direct copy, I have no issue with that. There are three different finishes to choose from with the Orchid 1001. Walnut, Cherry and Maple. I didn’t get a choice of a finish so I had no idea which one I would be getting, but I ended up with Maple – which is the lighest finish out of all three.

For some reason, I think that the darker the finish on a wooden toy, the more attractive and appealing it is to me. This could because I think it looks more natural, but despite my love for a darker finish, the Maple finish is really lovely. The curious thing about the Orchid 1001 is that it’s enhanced by a gold powder. So when you look closely on the texture of the Orchid, it has a beautiful gold shimmer. It’s difficult to see in the pictures I took but hopefully you can sort of see it. The shimmer really is stunning, though – trust me.

Speaking of the texture, it’s quite interesting to me. I’m fairly sure I haven’t seen anything like it before – at least not on a dildo. Soft, gentle ridges that are on either side of the head and along the front of the head. I also love the handle on the Orchid 1001. It’s heart-shaped, making the Orchid really easy to manoeuvre as I can fit a few of fingers through it and thrust to my hearts content. The choice of handle shape is something I’m extremely thankful for because a lot of companies don’t think about comfort for the user when they’re trying to thrust with the toy, so I’m pleased that Idee Du Desir have thought about that.

There are two things I kinda dislike about the Orchid 1001. One of which is just down to personal preference. The shaft. It’s just so..slim. I know the Orchid is more of a G-spot toy so having a thin shaft is somewhat necessary. But, I love my girth and the Orchid just doesn’t have that. It’s not a deal breaker by any means, but I’ve noticed that Idee Du Desir’s toys generally have little to no girth. I do find this a little unusual because everyone is different, not everyone likes slim toys so I think a little variety in that regard wouldn’t go amiss. Maybe something for Idee Du Desir to think when designing their next toy.

The other thing I dislike about the design is the branding. ‘Idee Du Desir’ is inscribed along the front of the handle, which is just so agonising. Why? My fluids often get trapped in the inscribing, making the Orchid 1001 a bit of a bitch to clean.

My Experience with the Orchid 1001:

Before I talk about my experience, I just want to alleviate any concerns you may or may not have about wooden toys. I know a lot of people think that wooden toys cause splinters, which I have to admit, is kind of eye roll inducing. Think of it like this. Have you ever had a splinter from wooden furniture? Wooden furniture that you put your arse on multiple times a day, with or without clothing? No, you don’t. The only way you could get a splinter from a wooden toy is if the entire surface isn’t completely smooth.

I’ve also seen concerns from people thinking that a wooden toy breaks/snaps fairly easily. Wooden toys are quite sturdy. This doesn’t mean to say that after repeatedly dropping it onto a hard surface, they won’t be damaged. But, it does mean that it won’t break very easily. Just like with all toys, they need to be looked after.

So, now we’ve got that out of the way, let’s get onto my experience. Firstly, when I was holding the Orchid 1001 in my hands, I was pretty surprised at how light it is. I really didn’t expect that at all, I figured it would have a moderate amount of weight to it like a glass toy, or be rather hefty like a steel toy. But no. I’ve come to the conclusion that wooden toys have the lightest material I’ve come across so far. 80g, in case you were wondering.

Since the surface of the Orchid 1001 is completely smooth and has no drag to it, I didn’t see any need for lube. I have quite the naturally lubricated vagina the majority of the time (which is both a blessing and a little bit of a curse), so when it comes to toys with little to no drag, I don’t bother with using lube.

The Orchid 1001 slipped right in with no issues and then..damn. G-Spot pressure activated! I was really pretty impressed by the fact that the Orchid 1001 could create so much pressure on my G-Spot given how light it is. A toy often has to be rather hefty for it to create any form of pressure on my G-Spot. Not so with the Orchid 1001! The angled head just instantly hits that sweet spot and it’s amazing! Especially when I wiggle the handle up and down, I was seeing stars.

How about that unique looking texture, though? Yeeah.. I can’t feel it. I have honestly tried to feel it, but beyond my fingertips – I can’t feel the texture at all. I’ve thrusted slow, fast, medium-fast, medium-slow. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. The texture all but disappears once it’s inside me. I did feel pretty damn upset by this but I remembered how easy it is to thrust with the Orchid 1001 and how much pressure the head delivers to my G-spot. So I’ve decided I don’t care that I can’t feel the texture. The G-spot pressure I experience from the Orchid 1001 is quite similar from what some of my other steel toys deliver, but my steel toys aren’t nice to my wrists and my arms start to fucking ache after about 10 minutes of use. With the Orchid 1001, I can experience intense amounts of pleasure, minus any aching of the arms and wrists. I think that’s pretty fucking awesome!

But surprise, surprise. I did find a use for the texture. After I realised I couldn’t feel it internally, I thought ‘hmm, what about on my clit?’. I held the Orchid 1001 upwards, so the handle was pointing to my stomach and slowly moved the ridges along the sides of my clit. It was just amazing. I didn’t orgasm via this stimulation, but it was a nice way to warm up – especially if I was having one of those ‘dry’ days.

Verdict:

Overall, I love the Orchid 1001. Granted, it’s not perfect. The inscribement makes it a little difficult to clean and the texture is non-existent when I’m using the Orchid internally. But, I love the G-spot stimulation, I love using the texture on my clit and the Orchid 1001 is just so great to manoeuvre. I also love how light it is, making it kind to my wrists and arms. My first experience with a wooden toy was a pretty damn great one, and I hope to enjoy many more after the Orchid 1001.
