Desirables Dalia Porcelain Dildo Review

~I received this product from Desirables for free in exchange for an honest review. This in no way, shape or form has any affect on my opinions on this product.~

Around May time this year, I was browsing my Twitter and I saw that a fellow blogger had recently acquired this beauty of a dildo – the Dalia. I was extremely curious, so I had a little look on the Desirables website and I was surprised to find that the Dalia is made from porcelain! Now at the time of recieving the Dalia, the only other solid materials I had tried were glass and steel so the Dalia is actually the first piece of porcelain I have ever fucked myself with. So far. You may or may not know this but steel is slowly becoming my most favourite material in a sex toy so I was definitely curious to see if porcelain could knock my beloved steel from its throne!

First Impressions:

I don’t often talk about a company in my reviews all that much anymore but I feel like Desirables definitely need to be talked about. Desirables are a Canadian company, based in Montreal. My contact with Isabelle (who I think is the founder of Desirables) was excellent. She seems to be a very passionate and driven person, very respectful and always willing to answer any questions I had. They’re definitely one of the very few companies I can openly recommend to someone just from how they made me feel and their desire to assist me in any way possible – for me that’s quite rare to find.

It’s no a secret that I’m a huge fan of simple packaging. Not so simple that it looks boring, but simple enough for it to be elegant but not so elegant that it makes you wonder if all the effort went into the packaging. And Desirables hit the nail on the head for me.

Desirables packaging.

A simple box with a cream coloured exterior and a lovely burgundy coloured interior. Lifting open the box, I was greeted by the Desirables Dalia booklet, a little envelope containing a Desirables business card and of course – the Dalia sitting in its foam insert with a lovely storage bag. So, why porcelain? A number of reasons, as it turned out! It really does make me wonder why it’s not a more common material considering all the benefits.

Porcelain is smooth, which helps for cleaning and insertion. It retains heat so you can run it under some warm water, or even run it under cool water for a lovely cold experience. Never put it in the freezer, though. Porcelain has a high mechanical strength which means it has quite a high chance of breaking if it falls onto the floor – although there’s still a chance of it chipping, like glass can. It is hypoallergenic, which simply means that it’s unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. And lastly, porcelain is compatible with all lubricants so you don’t have to worry that your favourite lube might damage the Dalia.

I don’t think I’ll ever get over how gorgeous the Dalia is. True, it has no special colour to it or a texture that could pull you in, but the simplicity of the Dalia really appeals to me and I know I won’t be the only one! The Dalia measures at 8.25 inches of overall length with 4 inches of insertable length. As you can see, the Dalia is double-ended. The tapered tip is for insertion and the more rounded tip is for kegel exercises.

Not everyone knows what kegel exercises are so I’ll just briefly explain. Kegel exercises are the simple steps of contracting your pelvic muscles that are recommended you perform a few times a day. Overtime, your pelvic floor muscles will get stronger and some benefits of that are improved bladder control, better sex for you and your partner, and enhanced orgasms! Sound good to you? Definitely does to me. So not only is the Dalia a sex toy, it’s also a kegel exerciser – win win!

My Experience with the Dalia:

I really hate to say something like this about a product when the company who created it has been so good to me and is respected in the sex toy world, but honesty is the best policy when writing reviews (not just on sex toys either), so I have to write my true thoughts..

I just find the Dalia boring. I don’t even necessarily dislike it, the Dalia just doesn’t spark any interest in my vagina. Now, no one is more surprised at this than me. The shaft on the tapered tip is curved enough to reach the places that you want to be pleasured, the Dalia is weighty enough to able to create a presence once inserted, and obviously that wonderful firmness is there. So, why does my vagina not really take an interest? I really have no idea. I can’t even explain it because I’m just so confused. The Dalia is great on paper. My hands and fingers move along its sleek body, making me think that this toy could become a favourite of mine. But that never happened once I fucked myself with it.

I think it might be a case of the shaft just being a little too short? Or maybe not curved enough. But I have other toys that have the same amount of curve in the shaft so maybe it isn’t the curve that’s the problem. All I know is that when I thrust with the Dalia, my G-Spot gets neglected just a tad. I get that ‘need to pee feeling’ but that’s it. I don’t get the eye-roll inducing feeling that I get from some of my other toys.

With the rounded tip, my experience isn’t really that much better than with the tapered tip. Although, my G-Spot was getting a little bit more attention and I was feeling some pleasure during thrusting with the rounded end. But the sensation was barely there and I got bored fairly quickly. I didn’t try out the kegels aspect with the Dalia for one reason – it’s too heavy for me. The Dalia weighs in at 230 grams, which means it’s not for beginners. You need to start off with something light when doing kegel exercises if it’s your first time or you’re still fairly new to them. I’m not a beginner but I’m in no way close to using something that weighs 230g for kegel exercises. If I ever get to that stage, then I’ll update this review on my experience with the Dalia as a kegel exerciser.

Verdict:

Sigh. I still don’t understand why the Dalia doesn’t work for me. Like I said, it’s great on paper and seems like it would be perfect, considering the fact that the Dalia has all the things I look for in a dildo. I know that the Dalia is highly-rated among other bloggers, though, so who really knows why my vagina just doesn’t want to cooperate with it. This isn’t to say that I’ll write off porcelain as a material in a sex toy, I actually quite love it, but the Dalia just sadly isn’t for me.
